Great staff.
I went through there at the end of last yearIt is a good place to find out that chopper Reid was in there while he was in jailBut unfortunately I don't think it has wheelchair accessBut again history wise it is good
This was an excellent place to visit and learn the history of the old Ararat Gaol and then J ward for the criminally insane. Our guide was very knowledgeable and also informative and respectful about those with a mental health issue. There are heaps of photographs and information boards along the tour and you are given ample time to take in the aura of the premises and to take your own photographs. I will be back to redo this tour and then onto the tour of the larger mental health site at ararat. This is a must do site to visit when passing Ararat
It a historical accurate look back in jails of Australia
Did the day tour on Saturday morning. At first it seemed interesting our guide was informative and made it a little exciting. The lay out for a jail is quite standard for any jail.. And understanding why these peoples where sent to here made sense considering they were the worst of the worst for that era. It was good to see some of the rooms still had a sense those once condemned to spend their remaining days.. Others made me laugh as I don't think Clark rubber was around at that time... Thanks for the sponsorship there clarky. Value for money... And friendly staff..
